Confirmed: Chelsea Agree Deal For 3rd Summer Signing

Chelsea has agreed on a deal with Aston Villa for Carney Chukwuemeka.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chelsea has confirmed the shock imminent signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old’s Villa contract was due to expire in 12 months and talks over renewed terms had stalled. Head coach Steven Gerrard has limited Chukwuemeka’s opportunities since it became apparent that he might not sign a fresh deal.

Chukwuemeka has since been linked with almost all of Europe’s top clubs. Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona had all expressed an interest in signing the under-19 European Championship-winning captain.

But it is Chelsea who appears to have struck a deal with Villa, with an initial £15million fee with potential add-ons inflating that further to £20m. It is an eye-watering fee for a player who has made just 14 Premier League appearances though he does have huge potential.

Chelsea has announced that he will now travel to London to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. “Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka,” a club statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday evening read.

“The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical.”

Villa boss Gerrard left Chukwuemeka out of Villa’s squad for their pre-season tour of Australia in July. The former England captain confirmed that it was due to the ongoing uncertainty over the player’s future.

Gerrard explained: “Carney is yet to sign a contract offer that has been in place for some time now. I’ve decided the best thing for him would be to continue his training programme back at Bodymoor [Heath, Villa’s training ground].”
