Due to the high rate of rape cases in the country EKO HOT BLOG gathered that a Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday ordered that a 20-year-old man, Egbota Nathaniel, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The police charged Nathaniel with sexual assault and defilement.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje did not take the plea of Nathaniel, following a motion by the Prosecutor, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, that the matter be referred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 24 for mention.
Earlier, Ogunleye told the court that Nathaniel committed the offence sometime in 2019 at his residence.
He said that Nathaniel had sexual intercourse with the teenager without her consent.
The Prosecution alleged that Nathaniel threatened to harm her if she mentions what he did to her.
The girl, he said, later summoned courage and exposed him.
The matter, he said, was transferred to the Gender Section of the Ikeja Police Command for further interrogation and he admitted to have sexually assaulted the girl.”
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of sections 137 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 137 attracts life imprisonment for defilement.
