The 26-year-old was substituted at half-time during United’s goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday and subsequently withdrew from the Morocco squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks but is on track for a full recovery.

United sources have emphasized that Mazraoui’s condition is not an emergency. The defender, who joined from Bayern Munich in August for a fee that could rise to £17.1 million, has been a regular starter, featuring in nine of the ten matches he’s been available for this season.
With Mazraoui out, Diogo Dalot is the only senior full-back fit for United. Dalot, normally a right-back, has been filling in on the left due to the long-term absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Shaw has been out since February with hamstring and calf issues, while Malacia, sidelined with a knee injury, has not featured since May. Both players are expected to return later this month, though not immediately after the October international break.

United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has been forced to improvise with his defensive lineup. Victor Lindelof replaced Mazraoui at right-back against Villa, and midfielder Toby Collyer filled in at left-back in the League Cup. Lindelof is likely to start at right-back in United’s next Premier League match against Brentford on October 19, with further fixtures against Fenerbahce and West Ham to follow.
