A court in Cross River state convicted a man of sexual assault against his daughter to 22 years in prison.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that 47-year-old man, Emmanuel Thompson Udo raped his daughter before his wife blew the whistle on him.
He has now received a sentence of 22 years imprisonment by a family court in Cross River State., South-south Nigeria, on Tuesday, without the option of a fine, for defiling his 14-year-old daughter.
The arrest and prosecution of Udo by the police came in response to a petition from a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative.

“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the mother of the child who has shown courage to seek help by contacting us at the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, I want to commend the police for conducting an extensive investigation.,” the principal partner, James Ibor, stated after the court decision.
“I want to also commend the attorney general and commissioner for Justice, and the members of his office, for the manner in which he conducted the prosecution, I wish to commend my staff for providing psychosocial support to the child for the entire length of the proceedings.. Above all, I want to commend the acting Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Eyo Ita for the judgement.”
