Comes after Nigerian pastor’s conference drew 60K people
Eko Hot Blog reports that a Ghanaian bishop has expressed disappointment that Ghanaians give more support to Nigerian pastors than their own preachers. Bishop Sam Owusu said he was surprised by the hypocrisy of Ghanaians who don’t respect, honor or love their own clergy but celebrate foreigners.
His remarks come after a conference by Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze attracted over 60,000 Ghanaians last week. “Just last week, one of the young men in Nigeria came to do a prayer conference here and over 50,000 people were there praying, Ghanaians o!” Owusu said.
But the bishop said no Ghanaian pastor could go to Nigeria and draw even 10% of that crowd. “Nigerians will never that’s why there is no bigger Ghanaian Church in Nigeria. Nigerians respect and love their own,” he stated.
Owusu, who leads Pottersville church in Accra, said Ghanaians were supporting a Nigerian pastor at the expense of prophets in their own country. “Every prophet in Ghana is considered as fake. Every anointed man of God is considered fake,” he lamented.
The bishop’s comments come amid ongoing friendly rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria. The two nations have competed over music, sports, food and more.
“You go to Jerry Eze programme, you are sponsoring a Nigerian at the detriment of your own prophet in Ghana,” Owusu told his congregation. He said he loved the visiting pastor but was upset that even Ghana’s election commissioner went to welcome him at the airport.
