Gombe State Police Dismiss Bandit Infiltration Claims By NSCDC

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Gombe State Police Command has refuted allegations made by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) that bandits have infiltrated the state.

The state Commandant of NSCDC, Muhammad Mu’azu, had circulated a video claiming that intelligence reports suggested the presence of bandits in Gombe State, recruiting informants.

However, in a statement released on Friday and signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mahid Abubakar, the Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, categorically dismissed the claims made in the viral video, labeling them as unfounded.

The statement clarified, “The attention of Gombe State Police Command has been drawn to a trending video in circulation purported to have emanated from a sister security agency that bandits have infiltrated Gombe State and that bandits’ informants are on the increase.”

It continued, “The command wishes to state emphatically that there is no such threat in Gombe State, and the police in the command in collaboration with other security agencies are committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order in the state.”

Commissioner Hayatu Usman urged residents to dismiss the claims and carry on with their daily activities without fear.

He further called on the public to provide credible information that could assist in maintaining the peaceful coexistence in Gombe State.

The statement emphasized, “Therefore, well-meaning members of the state should discountenance the trending video message and go about their lawful businesses as usual, the command also assures the people and residents alike of their safety.”
