Haaland’s Hat-Trick Powers Norway To Nations League Promotion

Erling Haaland netted a stunning hat-trick as Norway hammered Kazakhstan to secure promotion to the top tier of the Nations League.

The Manchester City striker, who set a new record as Norway’s all-time top scorer last month, has now scored 38 goals in 39 appearances for his country.

Haaland is also the Nations League’s leading scorer, with seven goals from just six group games.

He opened the scoring with a rebound after Antonio Nusa’s shot was saved by Kazakhstan’s goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov, then doubled the lead with a header from Nusa’s precise cross.

Alexander Sorloth added a third before the break, and Haaland completed his hat-trick with a calm finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, following a pass from Sander Berge.

Nusa rounded off the dominant performance by scoring Norway’s fifth goal.

With the 5-0 victory, Norway leapfrogged Austria, who drew 1-1 with Slovenia, to top Group B3. Austria were on the verge of clinching the group until Adam Gnezda Cerin’s equalizer for Slovenia in the 81st minute.

As a result, Austria will now face a promotion-relegation play-off against the third-place finisher in the top tier.
