The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has rejected the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) allegation that it is manipulating figures in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

In a statement on Monday, Eko Hot Blog reports that Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin, the Head of Voter Education at INEC Lagos, called the allegation “unfounded and inaccurate.” He explained that the state’s high registration figures are consistent with its large, youthful, and tech-savvy population.

Gbadegesin noted that Lagos also recorded the highest number of registrations in the last CVR exercise between 2021 and 2022.

He further clarified that the current figures include not only new registrants but also citizens applying for transfers, PVC replacements, and updates to personal information, making it inaccurate to equate the totals solely with new registrations.

Gbadegesin emphasized that the commission promotes transparency by making daily registration data available to all interested stakeholders. He urged political actors and the public to refrain from speculation and instead rely on official information.
