Israeli Attack Kills At Least 16 Children At UNRWA

At least 16 Palestinians have been killed and 50 others injured in an Israeli attack on a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) school sheltering displaced people in the al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Palestinian Ministry of Health made this known, stating that the attack on Al-Jaouni school occurred on Saturday, with reports indicating that children were among the injured.

A displaced man who was at the school described the scene, saying, “There was a swing here, swings were here, (children) were playing. What was their fault?”

He held his little daughter as he spoke, adding, “We barely found this place in the school, but even the school is not safe.”

Several injured children were reportedly taken to a nearby hospital following the attack.

The Israeli military claimed in a statement that militants were operating in structures located in the school area, stating, “This location served as a hideout and operational infrastructure from which attacks against IDF (Israel Defense Forces) troops operating in the Gaza Strip were directed and carried out.”

The attack on the UNRWA school shelter has sparked outrage and concern for the safety of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on civilian targets in the region, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
