Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has sternly warned residents against engaging in unhealthy environmental practices that could undermine efforts to protect the environment.

Furthermore, the State has empowered its agencies to prosecute individuals or organizations caught degrading the environment.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the State is committing significant resources to environmental protection, particularly in the fight against climate change.

“The State government would intensify efforts on enforcement to ensure compliance with the environmental laws,” Wahab stated.

Highlighting the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency’s (LASEPA) recent actions, Wahab revealed that the agency carried out 367 enforcement operations in the last three months.

Moreover, abatement notices were served on entities discharging raw sewage into the Lagoon.

“LASEPA has been empowered more than before to ensure total compliance with State environmental laws 2017 across the State,” Wahab warned, emphasizing the State’s commitment to safeguarding the environment.

Additionally, he expressed concern over the poor air quality levels in many parts of the State, as reported by LASEPA’s weekly Air Quality Index.

Consequently, the Commissioner urged residents to adopt eco-friendly practices and participate in the State’s advocacy programs aimed at improving the environment.
