Speaking at a strategy retreat in Lagos, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs and Investment, Mrs Solape Hammond, explained that the retreat was organised to perfect the strategic direction of the office since its name was changed from Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment to Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment.

Hammond, who maintained that the retreat was also aimed at reviewing the Office’s mandate, vision, mission as well as core values, applauded the vision of the state government in the creation of a dedicated SDG champion at the cabinet level,

She further stated that Lagos was the only state to have achieved that in the whole country.

According to her, though the vision of the office was all-encompassing, there was the need to fine-tune the mission to capture the expanded scope of the deliverables of the office in terms of the SDG mandate.

She also stated that the Lagos State Government had pledged $100million towards the 2020 Global Citizen Festival as part of efforts to eradicate open defecation by 2030.

The statement signed by the Public Affairs Officer 1 of the agency, Temitope Fancy, quoted Hammond to have said, “As a matter of interest, the state will be hosting the 2020 Global Citizen Festival, a 10-hour live broadcast of performances from celebrities from all over the world aimed at ensuring that Nigeria is not left behind in meeting the target of achieving the SDGs by 2030.”
