1. Court nullifies El-Rufai’s revocation of Durbar Hotel’s C of O
A Kaduna High Court has nullified the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy of Durbar Hotel by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In January 2020, El-Rufai demolished Durbar Hotel, which belonged to the family of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, and revoked its C of O while the case was still pending in court.
The Abacha family through their counsel, Dr. Reuben Atabo, consequently dragged the governor and three others to the Kaduna High Court presided over by Justice Hannatu Balogun for the “illegal demolition” of the Hotel and revocation of its C of O.
Joined in the suit number KDH/KAD/51/2020 with the Kaduna governor were the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Kaduna State, the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency, and the Kaduna State Geographic and Information Service, according to a The Nation report.
2. Sudan: Northern groups call for prompt evacuation of stranded Nigerians
The Coalition of Northern Groups has called on both houses of the National Assembly, to compel the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian representative at the African Union, to ensure the urgent and safe evacuation of Nigerians trapped in Sudan.
The group made the call in a statement on Monday, where it noted the “disturbing” failure of the federal government, to rescue about 4000 Nigerians stranded in war-torn Sudan.
“The Coalition of Northern Groups CNG is extremely saddened and concerned by the reports that about 4000 Nigerians trapped in Sudan have not been evacuated. We find it disturbing that the Federal Government of Nigeria should afford to fail once again, in the statutory responsibility of protecting Nigerians at home in Nigeria and abroad.
We demand action from both houses of the National Assembly to compel the federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser and Nigeria’s representative in the AU to ensure the urgent and safe evacuation of Nigerians who are mainly northerners trapped between Khartoum, Ethiopia and Egypt,” the statement read.
3. CNN fires longtime host, Don Lemon
Broadcasting giant, Cable Network News, has fired its longtime host and news anchor, Don Lemon.
Lemon, who worked with the company for 17 years, claimed he was unceremoniously dismissed by the company on Monday.
He expressed shock in a release shared via Twitter, stating that he was not given “any indication” that his employment would be terminated.
“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.

4. 50-year-old farmer macheted to death in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 50-year-old farmer, Olaoluwa Olorunfemi, by four yet-to-be-identified men.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed this in a statement issued in Akure and made available to newsmen on Monday.
Odunlami-Omisanya stated that the deceased was macheted to death at Ifeloduro Camp Forest Reserve in the state.
The command’s spokesman also explained that the incident happened at about 1720hrs on April 22.
5. 40% pay rise: Crisis looms in varsities over exclusion of workers
There are indications that unions in the university may rise up against the Federal Government over the alleged exclusion of their members in the 40 per cent pay rise for peculiar allowance and arrears.
The Federal Government has recently commenced payment of the approved 40 percent increase for civil servants in the federal ministries, agencies and departments under the Consolidated Public Salary Structure.
But workers in the university sector have kicked against their exclusion, describing the action of the government as a recipe for crisis.
6. More than 20 feared dead in shipwrecks off Italy
More than 20 people are feared drowned in three different shipwrecks within 24 hours, Italy’s coastguard said Monday, as good weather prompted fresh attempts at the perilous sea crossing from Africa.
Survivors from one boat that went down in Malta’s search and rescue area told officials about 20 people on board were missing, a coastguard statement said.
Three people had been reported missing earlier after another shipwreck in Italian waters about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the island of Lampedusa.
A body was later recovered from a third boat that sank in Malta’s waters.
