The Lagos Operations Office of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, has confiscated suspected pirated books worth N50 million during an anti-piracy raid in the Ajegunle area of Lagos state.
The Head of Operations for NCC in Lagos, Mr Charles Amudipe led the operation in Ajegunle Book Market, targeting bookshops and storage warehouses believed to hold pirated materials.

Amudipe explained that some shop owners attempted to resist the NCC officials during the raid.
“During the operation, we inspected several bookshops and warehouse suspected of housing pirated books around the Ajegunle market. Items identified as pirated works were seized.
“Thanks to the support of the Nigerian Army, the situation was managed peacefully, allowing our team to complete the operation smoothly,” he added.
According to him, the anti-piracy raid was a clear indication that the commission has intensified its enforcement activities, warning booksellers, schools, printers, and all those involved in copyright materials that piracy in any form will not be tolerated.

He also stated that the seized pirated books included publications from Macmillan, Oxford, and several other prominent publishers
“Piracy is a punishable offense. Anyone found guilty will face the full extent of the law,” he added.
