NDLEA Sweep Operation Leads To Arrest Of 34 Suspects

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT Command, has recently carried out a successful sweep operation targeting illicit drug dens within the territory, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects.

This operation was launched as part of efforts to combat drug abuse, particularly in light of Nigeria’s upcoming transition to a new administration.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, the FCT Commander of the NDLEA, Kabir Tsakuwa, provided details about the operation. The command initiated “Operation Tsaro” on May 8 with the objective of shutting down drug centers and apprehending drug dealers operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

During the operation, law enforcement operatives were able to successfully seize a wide range of illicit substances. These included Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine, Tramadol, Codeine, Rohypnol, and various other psychotropic substances. The targeted drug hotspots raided as part of the operation included Torabora, Dei-dei, Wuse Zone 4, Wuse Zone 3, Banex, Garki Village, Area 1, Gwarimpa (Village, 3rd Avenue), Abattoir in Karu, Gwagwalada, Kabusa, and Kuchigoro IDP Camp.

Commander Tsakuwa emphasized that some of the arrested individuals had already been charged and taken to court, while those identified as users were undergoing counseling sessions to address their drug dependencies.

Furthermore, Commander Tsakuwa affirmed that the NDLEA would continue its raids until hard drugs are effectively eradicated from circulation in the FCT.

The agency’s efforts aim to significantly reduce criminal activities associated with drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
