PDP Protests Kwara LG Election Results, Accuses KWASIEC Of Favoring APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have voiced opposing reactions to the outcomes of Saturday’s local government elections.

The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) announced on Sunday that the APC emerged victorious, winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 16 local government areas and 193 wards.

In response, members of the PDP staged a protest at the KWASIEC office in Ilorin on Sunday, accusing the commission of manipulating the election results to favor the APC.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the protesters, led by former commissioner Hajia Saratu Adebayo, carried placards with inscriptions such as “Kwara people say no to continuation of bad governance led by APC” and “KWASIEC robbed PDP in Kwara LG elections.”

Adebayo alleged that the PDP had actually won the chairmanship elections in all 16 local government areas but claimed that KWASIEC, in collaboration with the state government and APC, falsely awarded the victories to the ruling party.

Despite these allegations, the APC expressed gratitude to the people of Kwara for their support during the elections.

In a statement signed by the party’s chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the APC commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct and high turnout, despite what they described as intimidation attempts by the opposition.

The party also praised KWASIEC for its impartial handling of the election process, noting that any procedural hitches were promptly addressed.

The APC further condemned what it described as the PDP’s attempts to disrupt the election in certain areas, particularly in Offa, where miscreants allegedly tried to undermine the process.
