Yakubu Gowon

The first person to rule Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe, became the president in 1963 when he was 61 but the first person to rule Nigeria before he was 40 years old is Yakubu Gowon, he took office in 1966 when he was only 32 years old and was there till 1975, he spent 9 good years in the position of power.

Muritala Muhammad

After Yakubu Gowon, Muritala Muhammad became president in 1975 and he was only 37 years old.

Unfortunately, he was only there till 1976 when he was assassinated but he made so much impact that the International Airport in Lagos State is named after him, he is also on the N20 note.

Olusegun Obasanjo

Obasanjo was the next president after Muritala Muhammad and he was also in his very young at the time.

He was 39 years old in 1976 when he became Head of State and made significant impact, his positive impact ensured that presidency became that which was run by a civilian government.
