Religious Turmoil Subsides As Epe Itaopo Central Mosque Prepares To Turban New Chief Imam

Eko Hot Blog reports in a transformative turn of events at the Epe Itaopo Central Mosque, what began as religious unrest is now evolving into a momentous occasion as the community prepares to turban the newly appointed Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdulkabir Oriyomi Shamradeen.

The strife arose following the removal of the erstwhile Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullateef Oladapo, amid several allegations, leading to a clash of supporters for the succession of the new Imam.

The situation reached a climax on Friday, 22nd September 2023, as two Imams, Alhaji Abdulkabir Oriyomi and Alhaji Abdullateef Oladapo, appeared ready to lead the Jumat prayers at the Epe Itaopo Central Mosque.

Despite a reconciliation meeting scheduled for the day, the congregation witnessed a tumultuous scene as supporters of the two factions engaged in heated exchanges, resulting in damages to parts of the mosque.

Hon. Fariu Arebi, a member of the peace committee, pleaded with the factions to embrace peace and allow the reconciliation meeting to proceed. He stated, “We appeal to all parties involved to prioritize peace for the greater good of Epe.”

The mufty of Epeland, Alhaji AbdulKabeer Ayinla, shed light on the deposition of Alhaji Abdullateef Oladapo, citing misconduct and alleged unholy activities as grounds for his removal.

Alhaji Ayinla emphasized the need for an Imam with an unblemished record to lead the religious affairs of the community.

Despite the tensions, plans for the turbaning ceremony of Sheikh Abdulkabir Oriyomi Shamradeen as the new Chief Imam continue.

The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, 10th February 2024, at the Epe Recreational Ground, is expected to be a symbol of unity and a fresh start for the Epe Itaopo Central Mosque.

Sheikh Abdulkabir Oriyomi Shamradeen expressed gratitude for his appointment, attributing it to Allaah’s mercies.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing Allaah for a prosperous future, urging all sons and daughters of Epe to rally together for the collective progress of the community.

“My sincere advice is that we all need to put Allaah first in all we do so that we can all enjoy His goodies in the nearest future,” he emphasized.

 

The Arowaasi of Epe land, Alhaji Ibrahim Badrudeen Olanrewaju, called for unity and support for the new Chief Imam, stating that the decision to install him was a joint effort of both the Islamic and traditional chiefs of Epe land.
