The Rivers State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of ₦85,000 for its civil servants.
This announcement was made by the state’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara granted the approval during a private meeting with labor leaders and senior government officials.
Nwaeke confirmed that the implementation of the new wage would take immediate effect, providing much-needed financial relief to workers.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in his response, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, Chukwu Emecheta, praised Governor Fubara for meeting the expectations of Rivers State workers and acknowledged his dedication to improving their welfare. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts in addressing the needs of civil servants.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, commended the governor’s decision, noting that the new minimum wage would significantly ease the financial burdens on workers and enhance their standard of living.
The wage increase is expected to have a positive impact on the livelihoods of civil servants across the state, reinforcing the government’s commitment to worker welfare and economic stability.
