Popular Nigerian Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso is set to be buried on Tuesday following her recent passing.
A source close to the family confirmed that the singer died on Tuesday after a brief illness.
The Solatul Janazzah (Prayer for the Dead) was held for the late artist in Ojota, Lagos State, earlier on Tuesday.
The prayer, which was streamed live on TikTok, indicated that the final prayers and burial would occur in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State, at noon the same day.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that YAYI TV, a prominent Islamic channel on YouTube and social media, also confirmed the details in a Facebook post, stating, “Alh. Rukayat Gawat is no more. May Allah be pleased with her – Amin.
Her funeral (Janazah prayer) will take place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State today by noon – may Allah be pleased with her soul.”
Jubril Gawat, the deceased’s brother and Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shared a Quranic verse on his X account on Tuesday morning, reflecting on her passing.
He wrote, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Q 2 V 156). His post has garnered significant attention, with many followers and associates expressing their condolences.
Rukayat Gawat was well-known for her captivating voice and religious music, which resonated deeply with the Muslim community.
She was the first daughter of popular TV presenter and cleric Rasaq Gawat, entered the Islamic music scene in 2015 and gained widespread recognition with her hit song “Aye Le,” which addresses the mysterious disappearance of her father.
She continued to thrive in the Islamic music industry, releasing several successful projects and earning numerous accolades. In 2016, Gawat was honored with the ‘Best Female Islamic Musician’ award from City People Magazine and later won the ‘Best Islamic Artiste’ category at the 2017 City People Music Award.

In a poignant reminder of her family ties, media reports revealed that just a few days before her death, on September 14, 2024, she held a 12-year remembrance for her missing father, the popular Islamic presenter and broadcaster Aremu Gawat, who has been unaccounted for since July 2012.
