Russia Attacks Ukraine Grain Port Ahead Of Putin-Erdogan Talks

Eko Hot Blog reports that Russia launched an airstrike on Izmail port, one of Ukraine’s major grain exporting ports, on the eve of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The attack came hours before the two leaders were due to meet in Sochi, Russia, to discuss a possible deal to resume grain exports from Ukraine.

The United Nations and Turkey have been working to broker a deal that would allow Ukrainian grain to be shipped out of the country through the Black Sea. However, Russia has been blocking the ports, which has contributed to a global food crisis.

The attack on Izmail port is a setback to these efforts. It is unclear how much damage was caused, but it is likely to further complicate the negotiations.
