Sanwo-Olu Commissions Abiola-Onijemo Link Road, Bridge Connecting Communities in Ifako-Ijaiye

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the newly constructed Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with a bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area.

The project, unveiled on Monday, reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges and enhancing connectivity across Lagos State.

The 643-meter project includes a 135-meter reinforced concrete bridge, modern carriageways, slip roads, solar-powered streetlights, and a robust drainage system designed to mitigate flooding in the area.

It provides a vital connection between the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga communities, previously separated by a swamp.

During the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the transformative impact of the project on the lives of residents and businesses.

“Today marks a significant milestone in building sustainable communities and improving connectivity,” the governor said. “The Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with a bridge demonstrates our administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and tackling issues of inadequate infrastructure and persistent flooding.”

The governor also emphasized the socio-economic benefits of the project, including reduced travel time, enhanced safety, and improved opportunities for trade and investment.

The project aligns with the state’s THEMES+ Agenda, particularly the Transportation and Traffic Management Pillar. Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s resilience in delivering impactful projects despite global economic challenges.

He urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure, ensuring its maintenance and longevity.

At the event, various stakeholders expressed their appreciation: Engr. Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, lauded the administration’s efforts in delivering strategic projects across Lagos State. Hon. Desmond Elliot, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure, praised the administration’s strides in improving infrastructure. Hon. Temitope Adewale, a Lagos State House of Assembly member, highlighted the completion of 29 roads in Ifako-Ijaiye, attributing them to the administration’s focus on development. Hon. Usman Hamzat, Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, described the project as a benchmark for good governance.

The Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Bridge stand as a testament to the administration’s commitment to fostering unity, stimulating economic growth, and improving the quality of life for Lagosians. As Governor Sanwo-Olu noted, these projects are “assets built with collective resources,” urging citizens to protect and preserve them.

This milestone project is one of 36 newly constructed roads and bridges slated for commissioning under the Sanwo-Olu administration, showcasing its dedication to creating a Greater Lagos for all.
