Sleeping on Duty! Security Guards in Court Over Burgled Shop

Two security guards, Kazeem Adewale (49) and Nasiru Orikeye, have been apprehended and charged with conspiracy and theft following an incident in Lagos State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that  the guards were accused of sleeping on duty while thieves broke into a shop and stole 12 bags of rice worth over N1 million.

The incident took place at Odubanjo Street, Second Carwash, Governor’s Road, Ikotun, where the landlords association had hired the guards.

It was reported that the security guards failed to perform their duties adequately, which enabled the thieves to burgle the shop and escape with the stolen goods.

According to the Police, security guards Kazeem Adewale and Nasiru Orikeye were employed to safeguard the area but allegedly abandoned their posts on December 2, 2024, opting to sleep instead.

This lapse in duty resulted in the street gate being left open, allowing thieves to enter the premises.

During their absence, the thieves reportedly burgled a shop and stole 12 bags of rice, valued at over N1 million, before escaping undetected.

Upon discovering the incident, the landlords association inquired about the guards’ whereabouts during the burglary.

Despite being on duty, their alleged negligence led to suspicion that they may have conspired in the theft.

As a result, the matter was reported to the Ikotun Division of the Police, who subsequently arrested and detained the security guards.
