Supreme Court Sits For Nnamdi Kanu Today

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Supreme Court of Nigeria is set to hear an appeal filed by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

This was revealed by Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, who took to Twitter to announce the development.

Ejimakor urged the Supreme Court to let equity, justice, and good conscience guide its decision in the matter of Kanu.

He called on the apex court to undo the “grave injustice” that was done to Kanu almost two years ago, adding that injustice has an expiry date and that he hoped the Supreme Court would set a precedent by ruling in favor of his client.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, facing charges bordering on treasonable felony and illegal possession of firearms. However, on October 13, 2022, the appellate court dismissed the six-count charge levelled against him by the federal government, leading him to approach the Supreme Court.

The Court Sits For Nnamdi Kanu Today

The hearing of the appeal is expected to be a closely watched event, with many people hoping for a favourable outcome for Kanu. His detention has been a source of controversy, with his supporters accusing the Nigerian government of violating his human rights.
