Professor Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State, has stated that he is not in a rush to name and anoint his successor ahead of the general elections in 2023.
According to Eko hot blog, Ayade mentioned this while receiving his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Calabar on Monday. Mohammed is in the state to settle an internal PDP party crisis.

Governor Ayade told party supporters that the PDP has delivered the highest victory story in the state during his tenure.
“Under my leadership, the PDP has delivered the highest victory story in Cross River State history. So no one can discuss what structures or strategies I need right now,” he said.

“As a result, your visit marks a turning point in our relationship, and our private discussions are crystal clear to me. I’m aware that many people are looking up to me in 2023.
“I can’t afford to make a decision just for my sake. I am not desperate in putting a successor but I am desperate for their well-being.”

On his part, Governor Mohammed said the need for the party to remain United cannot be overemphasized especially as the country gradually tilts towards the next political era.
He however commended Ayade for connecting to the people of the state politically.

“You are inextricably linked in terms of perception, vision, and where we want to take the country together, and we are connected intellectually and politically because our forefathers have been together in this kind of thing.
“There must be structures put in place to make sure that the affairs and aspirations of all Nigerians, especially our leaders are reached,” he said.
