Eko Hot Blog reports that a clash between two communities, Oturpo-Ojile and Ochi-Ibadan, in the Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State has resulted in the tragic death of two individuals and the destruction of more than 70 houses.
The conflict began when villagers in Ochi-Ibadan reportedly killed a man from Oturpo-Ojile who was returning from Lagos to his village.

In retaliation, enraged youths from Oturpo-Ojile attacked Ochi-Ibadan, setting fire to over 70 houses in a reprisal attack.
The member representing Ankpa I state constituency, Akus Lawal, confirmed the incident during a session of the Kogi State House of Assembly. He expressed concern over the communal clash and emphasized the need to prevent its recurrence.
Lawal stated,
- “The sad incident occurred on January 14, 2024. The communal clash between two communities is very worrisome and should not repeat itself again.
- We were informed that the death of one man from Oturpo-Ojile while returning from a journey led to a reprisal attack by his people on Ochi-Ibadan village, whom they accused of causing the death of their son. Over 70 houses and many properties in Ochi-Ibadan were burnt down.”
He commended the Commissioner of Police for conducting an on-the-spot assessment and praised the quick response of the Kogi State Government under Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Lawal urged the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate relief materials for all affected victims.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP William Aya, disclosed that 30 houses were razed, and several properties were destroyed.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, visited the affected communities, and normalcy has been restored, according to Aya.
