The Lagos State Government has warned residents, celebrities, and social media influencers to stop giving money to street miscreants.
According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, this action fuels insecurity and creates environmental challenges for the entire city, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The Commissioner’s warning came after an X user, #aje_olukay, urged the state government to deploy operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch to protect motorists from the harassment and intimidation of homeless boys and teenagers. The user described them as a “menace to us all.”
Responding to the tweet, Wahab emphasized that residents are not solving the miscreants’ problems by giving them cash. Instead, they are encouraging them to remain on the streets, allowing their numbers to grow and reinforcing a “cycle of lawlessness.”
He argued that what may seem like a kind gesture only makes law enforcement more difficult and creates bigger security and environmental concerns for everyone.
