Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have killed a member of an armed militia in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after he tried to snatch a soldier’s rifle and escape custody.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspect was first arrested on September 4, 2025, at Kaskra in Barkin Ladi by troops of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace. He was found with an AK47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

In a statement on Saturday, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer, confirmed the incident.
According to him, the suspect admitted to involvement in several criminal activities in Barkin Ladi and offered to lead security operatives to the hideout of his accomplices to recover more weapons.

Troops launched a follow-up operation on September 5, but during the exercise, the suspect attempted to escape. He was shot and killed. His body has been deposited in the morgue.
“Troops of 3 Division JTF OPEP are at the forefront of tackling armed criminals and will not relent until the entire Joint Operations Area is secured from these miscreants,” the statement added.
