The National Assembly has stated that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Kogi Central senator, cannot resume her office despite her 6-month suspension ending, even after she wrote to them expressing her desire to return.

According to Eko Hot Blog, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria, responded in a letter, stating that the suspension remains a pending issue in court.

According to the letter, the matter is “sub judice,” meaning it is still under judicial consideration. “Until the judicial process is completed, and the senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.

Danzaria added that they would duly notify the senator of the Senate’s decision once the issue is resolved.

This is not the first time Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been denied access to the Senate. She previously attempted to resume on July 12 following a Federal High Court judgment that asked the Senate to review her suspension.

Both the senator and the National Assembly have since appealed parts of that judgment, and the case is now pending before the Court of Appeal.
