A Symbol Of Commitment — Nigerians In Diaspora On Need Of A Consulate Office In Chicago

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigerians in diaspora, who have long grappled with challenges and inconveniences associated with traveling long distances for official documentation, are calling on President Bola Tinubu’s Federal Government to swiftly establish a consulate office in Chicago, Illinois, United States.

The establishment of this consulate office, they argue, would alleviate the burdens faced by thousands of Nigerians conducting business in the city and neighboring regions who currently have to travel extensive distances to access services provided by the nation’s embassy office.

The demand for a consulate office in Chicago is driven by the fact that the city serves as a crucial hub for business, tourism, and cultural activities, with numerous Nigerians engaged in trade within the area.

The establishment of a consulate office would not only facilitate smoother consular services for Nigerian nationals but also contribute to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country.

The Nigerians, represented by the Tinubu Presidential Forum (TPF) Diaspora, emphasized that the timely establishment of the consulate office could have transformed the lives of countless Nigerians in Chicago and neighboring states while boosting the country’s economy.

They urged President Tinubu to prioritize this demand after assuming leadership from his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Alh. Olatunji Quadri, the General Coordinator of TPF Diaspora, underscored that the lack of a secure location and a consulate office under previous administrations, including the Buhari administration, had denied Nigerians in Chicago and surrounding areas numerous opportunities.

He highlighted that access to consular services is a fundamental human right, and the denial of this right has created significant barriers for travel, business transactions, and obtaining essential documentation.

Quadri emphasized the significance of having a Nigerian consulate in Chicago, particularly in a city renowned for its history of international trade and tourism.

He stated that the establishment of such a consulate office would be a game-changer, providing essential resources to Nigerians residing in the city and visitors engaged in business, tourism, and other activities.

The coordinator stressed that easy access to passport and visa services, document certification, and other vital consular services would enhance business ties between Nigeria and the United States and contribute to reducing unemployment in Nigeria.

“It is crucial that the Tinubu-led administration ensures Nigerian-Americans receive the support they need to succeed. The establishment of a consulate in Chicago would be a powerful symbol of that commitment,” Quadri added.

He called on Nigerians both within the country and abroad to support their advocacy, compelling the Federal Government to address their demands promptly.
