Tragedy struck in Abuja on Wednesday when a man, his wife, and their young son lost their lives after their vehicle crashed during a violent encounter with suspected touts, popularly known as Agberos.

Eko Hot Blog reports that eyewitnesses said the family was driving a Toyota Highlander after purchasing a new refrigerator when three hoodlums began chasing them from the Berger area.

The suspects allegedly forced their way into the vehicle and attempted to seize control of the steering wheel from the driver.

“In the process of struggling for control, the car rammed into the pillar under the bridge before plunging into the drainage,” an eyewitness told Leadership.

The impact killed the man, his wife, and their child instantly, while also damaging a green Abuja taxi parked nearby.

Enraged by the tragedy, onlookers reportedly descended on the touts, lynching one of them on the spot.

Police officers from the Mabushi Division later arrived at the scene, rescuing the remaining two suspects, who sustained serious injuries.

The injured suspects were rushed to the National Hospital for treatment, while security operatives evacuated the body of the lynched tout.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, which has reignited concerns about insecurity and touting activities in the nation’s capital.
