Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, described Lagos State as belonging to no single group and called it the pride of Nigeria’s economy.

Eko Hot Blog reports that while speaking on the Daybreak program on Arise Television on Wednesday, Bwala argued that the concentration of federal projects in Lagos should not be viewed as favoritism, but rather as an investment in the nation’s commercial center.

He said, “Let me explain why Lagos State is unique. Lagos belongs to everyone. In the last election, the President, who is from the South West, did not win Lagos. That shows how diverse Lagos truly is.

“Africa’s richest man is from the North, yet his business is based in Lagos, not Kano. Almost every wealthy Nigerian has business interests in Lagos, and people from all parts of the country are represented there.

“If not for the fact that the majority speak Yoruba, you might even question whether Lagos is actually part of the South West.”

Comparing Lagos to major global economic centers, he added, “London has more investment than the rest of England combined. New York has more infrastructure and investment than other parts of the United States, including California. Paris also attracts major investment.

“In every country, the commercial center usually receives significant infrastructure to boost the economy. So whatever Lagos gains, the entire country benefits.”

Bwala defended the N3.9 trillion in federal projects reportedly allocated to Lagos over two years, saying the spending was justified because Lagos remains the commercial engine of Nigeria and a symbol of economic progress.

“The idea that Lagos receives more than other states should be seen in the right context. Lagos belongs to everyone. Lagos is the heart of Nigeria. Lagos is the pride of the nation,” Bwala said.
