Google has released its most searched topics by Nigerians and it’s quite amazing how updated we are in the country.
As the year ends, more Nigerians searched about the U.S. election, Nigeria’s new National Anthem, and the national electricity grid, according to Google. The 2024 Year in Search report highlighted popular searches, notable individuals, topics, and questions that caught Nigerians’ interest.
Google revealed Nigerians also searched for topics like the new minimum wage, Betta Edu, Yahaya Bello, Farooq Oreagba, and Donald Trump. Popular word searches included ‘demure,’ ‘steeze,’ and ‘naira mutilation.’ In movies, interests focused on ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ ‘Treasure in the Sky,’ and ‘Rebel Ridge.’
Google West Africa’s Communications Manager, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said the 2024 Year in Search highlights the questions, interests, and issues that shaped Nigerians’ lives, showing how Search helps users navigate and understand their world.
The top TV series that captured the interest of Nigerians included ‘Supacell’, ‘My Demon’, and ‘Queen of Tears’.
Google noted that Nigerians explored various recipes, with “Pornstar Martini Recipe” leading searches. Search trends also reflected concerns about personal well-being and global events, with top queries including “How much is dollar to naira today?“, “How to get perfectly defined curls for African hair?”, and “Who won the US presidential election?”
