Trump, who spoke with journalists at the White House on Wednesday, revealed he would soon speak with Putin.

However, he emphasized that the Russian leader already understands the U.S. position regarding the conflict.

“I have no special message for President Putin he already knows exactly where I stand. Whatever decision he makes, we’ll either support it or oppose it. If we’re not pleased, you’ll see a response.”

Trump’s remarks came shortly after Putin announced his willingness to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Moscow.

According to the Russian leader, this suggestion came following Trump’s proposal for a face-to-face meeting between both presidents to push for peace.

“Donald requested such a meeting, and I agreed. I said, ‘Let Zelenskyy come to Moscow,’” Putin explained during a press conference at the end of his visit to China for a World War II anniversary event.

“I’ve never ruled out such a meeting, but whether it will be meaningful, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.

Putin stressed that if negotiations fail, Russia is prepared to pursue its goals by military means. “We’ll see how events unfold,” he said.

Reacting to Putin’s comments, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, dismissed Moscow’s proposal, stating that several other countries had already shown interest in hosting peace talks.

He confirmed that President Zelenskyy is ready to meet at any time but criticized the Russian leader for playing games with unrealistic conditions.

“Only by increasing international pressure can Russia be forced to approach peace talks seriously,” Sybiha said on social media.

Although Trump has continued to promise a swift resolution to the conflict, no real progress has been made. Russia insists that any peace deal must include control of four territories it claimed since 2022.

On the other hand, Ukraine maintains that it will not concede any part of its land.

A correspondent reporting from Moscow noted that Putin appears confident the Trump administration understands Russia’s position.

However, the Russian president made it clear that any peace deal must also secure Russia’s long-term safety and interests.
