The Federal Government has announced plans to set up Medical Rehabilitation Centres across Nigeria, prioritising neuro-rehabilitation for persons living with spinal cord injuries.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, made the disclosure on Friday in Abuja during a symposium themed “Fall Prevention, Spinal Cord Protection, Empowering Lives, Enhancing Opportunities,” held to mark the 2025 World Spinal Cord Injury Day.

The event was jointly organised by the Spinal Cord Injury Association, FCT Chapter, and the Brain and Spine Foundation Africa.

Delivering the keynote address, Isa reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to promoting spinal cord health and advancing disability inclusion.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully aware of this reality and is working diligently to improve the quality of life for Nigerians living with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities,” Isa said.

He added that through targeted interventions, the provision of assistive devices, and the promotion of inclusive policies, the government is ensuring that no citizen is denied access to healthcare, dignity, or opportunity.

Isa also highlighted partnerships with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria, MRTB, aimed at supporting the success of the initiative.
