5 Foods Every Ulcer Patient Must Eat Regularly To Stay Healthy

No one understands pain like a peptic ulcer patient with painful sores on the lining of the stomach, small intestine or oesophagus hence they are advised to stick to a healthy ulcer diet to find relief. Against popular belief, no food or beverages can cause or cure ulcers.

However, ulcer patients are advised to stay away from foods that irritate and worsen their condition while following a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc which will help you heal faster and also prevent future ulcer development.

1. Fruits

fruits contain antioxidants and fibres which help to heal ulcer sores and inflammation. The best fruits are grapes, berries, apples and pomegranates etc. You should however stay away from citrus fruits like grapefruit and oranges as they cause reflux and might worsen ulcer symptoms.

2. Vegetables

Vegetables contain vitamins and antioxidants which will fasten the healing process of ulcers. However, you should avoid spicy peppers and tomatoes as they can also cause reflux. You should limit raw vegetables as they are not easily digest.

3. Lean proteins

Fish, eggs, lean beef, dry beans and peas etc will supply your body with low-fat proteins. While fatty fish like mackerel, sardines and salmon contain omega-3 fatty acids which will not only reduce inflammation but may prevent another ulcer.

4. Fermented dairy

Greek yoghurt and other fermented dairy products contain bacteria called probiotics which help to alleviate ulcer symptoms. They also contain proteins which help to repair damaged tissues and heal ulcer wounds.

5. Herbs and spices

There are certain herbs and spices which are very potent in treating inflammations that come with an ulcer. Turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and garlic are the best in this category.
