The call was made during a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, where Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, spoke on behalf of his counterparts.
He stressed the importance of resuming oil exploration in frontier basins to complement the ongoing military operations and fast-track development across the region.

Zulum noted that unlocking the oil potential in the North-East would not only boost economic activities but also create job opportunities and reduce insecurity.
“Restarting oil exploration will support security operations and push development forward in our region,” the governor said.
He appreciated President Tinubu for continuing the fight against insurgency and for putting measures in place to reduce the effects of natural disasters such as desertification and flooding.
“Our region has faced significant environmental and development challenges due to years of neglect,” Zulum stated, adding that the governors remain committed to working with the president to ensure effective governance and lasting change.
The Kolmani Integrated Development Project, located on the Bauchi-Gombe border, was officially launched in November 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited also resumed drilling at the Wadi-B well in Borno’s Jere LGA in May 2023.
Earlier this year, NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, assured that oil exploration in the North will continue under the current administration.
