The Armani Group said in a heartfelt message:
“With deep sadness, we announce the death of our founder, creator, and the unstoppable force behind everything we’ve built — Giorgio Armani.”
Known for his timeless designs and sharp tailoring, Armani launched his fashion label in Milan in 1975. Over the years, he became a dominant figure in luxury fashion, dressing Hollywood stars and expanding into hotels and other luxury ventures.

Although the funeral will be a private event, the public will have a chance to pay their last respects at a farewell viewing in Milan over the weekend.
The company further said, “Mr. Armani, as he was fondly and respectfully called by his team, passed on peacefully with his loved ones nearby.”
Despite his age, Armani remained active in his company until the very end. “He never stopped working. Even in his last days, he remained committed to the collections, ongoing projects, and future plans,” the statement added.
Earlier this year, he pulled out of the Milan menswear show due to health issues and also missed his Paris Armani Prive event, following doctors’ advice.
At the time, he shared a message saying, “Though I felt ready, my doctors asked me to take more rest.” He emphasized that he still monitored and approved everything remotely, adding, “Everything you’ll see was overseen and signed off by me.”
Armani was praised globally for pioneering red-carpet fashion and making high-end style more accessible with his Emporio Armani line. He also ventured into hospitality with a chain of luxury hotels.
His death comes just weeks before the brand’s 50th anniversary.
Italy’s Culture Minister, Alessandro Giuli, described him as “a major figure in Italian cultural life, who turned elegance into a global language.” He added,
“Armani’s refined and modern style changed how fashion, film, and society interacted, leaving a lasting impact on the world.”
