El-Rufai expressed that he felt “overwhelmed by the grace and dignity” shown by the institutions and personalities who received him. He saw the visit as an “exemplary display of a Nigerian citizen being made to feel welcome outside of his home area,” amidst attempts to create division.

El-Rufai’s itinerary included delivering the Odenigbo Lecture for the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri and speaking at a women’s conference for the Anglican Diocese of Egbu.
The former governor also expressed appreciation for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who attended one of the events despite not feeling well. Obi’s presence underscored the bipartisan nature of the unity message.
El-Rufai, who was also a guest of Eze Stephen Kemjika Agumanu of Nekede, said he leaves Owerri with great memories.
