The Cross River State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of Theresa Ushie, the Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, for another three months.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Ushie was first suspended in June over allegations of gross misconduct following an impeachment notice from eight members of the Bekwarra Legislative Council.

The extension was approved during a plenary session on Tuesday in Calabar. Ovat Ogbor, the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, moved the motion, and Francis Ogban of Biase State Constituency seconded it.

Davies Eta, the Chairman of the investigating committee, explained that the extension was necessary to allow his team more time to conclude its investigation and prepare a comprehensive report for the House.

After the motion passed, the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, officially extended Ushie’s suspension for an additional three months, pending the outcome of the investigation.
