Gunmen Strike Qua’an-Pan, 300 Flee, 30 Homes Razed

More than 300 people have been forced to flee their homes after a series of attacks by armed men on 10 communities in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the attacks occurred in late August in Doemak district, also led to the destruction of over 30 houses, farmlands, and properties, just as residents were preparing for the harvest season.

Communities hit by the violence include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom.

Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, Mr. Christopher Manship, who visited the affected areas, called for unity in tackling the rising insecurity.

He urged traditional leaders, religious heads, and community associations to join forces with the government to put an end to the recurring attacks.

“I’m calling on our royal fathers, faith leaders, and community groups to stand with us in strongly rejecting these attacks and in finding a lasting way forward.”

“We must all come together to condemn this violence and seek a lasting solution,” Manship said.

He assured displaced persons of his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and facilitating their safe return, noting that security operatives have already been deployed to the communities.

Mr. Manship also appealed to security personnel and local vigilante groups to remain vigilant and continue working together to restore calm.

Also speaking, Plateau State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Cornelius Doeyok, praised the LGA chairman for his efforts in bringing stakeholders together to find solutions to the insecurity affecting the area.
