The Labour Party’s spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, has announced that Peter Obi will not secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.
Arabambi made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s “Lunchtime Politics.” He believes the party can succeed without Obi, stating that the momentum from the 2023 elections came from the #EndSARS movement and widespread dissatisfaction with the previous government, not from Obi’s popularity, Eko Hot Blog reports.

This declaration follows a recent controversy where Obi advised his followers to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the August by-elections.
Although Obi claimed his advice stemmed from the Labour Party’s lack of candidates, the party leadership called his actions false and disloyal.
Arabambi also accused the party’s Acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu of secretly working with Obi. He stated the party plans to take action against them.

He also challenged Obi to formally leave the party and join the ADC. “If he thinks he can win seven million votes on his own in 2027, we advise him to announce his departure from the Labour Party,” Arabambi said.
He further claimed that Obi has one foot in the Labour Party, one in the PDP, and another in the ADC, suggesting he lacks loyalty. According to Arabambi, Obi only used the Labour Party as a vehicle for change and was “just opportuned to be the head.”
