The resulting fire engulfed at least four nearby trucks that were parked in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the situation could have escalated into a major catastrophe if not for the rapid response of emergency services.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), working in coordination with other emergency responders, acted swiftly to contain the blaze.
The agency deployed personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, police divisions from Aswani, Ilasa, and Mushin, as well as the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, to the scene.

According to LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, the fire was brought under control after officers secured the affected section of the road and redirected traffic to prevent further danger.
He also confirmed that reinforcements from neighboring zones were mobilized to support the operation.
Bakare Oki expressed relief that no lives were lost and credited the outcome to the prompt coordination among response teams.
However, he issued a warning to drivers of tankers, articulated vehicles, and other heavy-duty trucks to avoid reckless speeding, which preliminary investigations suggest was the main cause of the accident.
He encouraged the public to make use of LASTMA’s toll-free hotline (080000527862) to report any traffic-related emergencies and assured residents that the agency is well-prepared to handle such situations efficiently.
“LASTMA remains fully committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring safe and effective traffic management throughout Lagos State,” he stated.
