President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the mandatory implementation of health insurance across all Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
As reported by Eko Hot Blog, the directive announced by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, enforces the National Health Insurance Act (NHIA) of 2022, a law that aims to provide universal health coverage for all Nigerians.

The President’s directive focuses on five key areas. First, all government MDAs must enroll their employees in the NHIA plan. Secondly, any business that wants to participate in public procurement processes must present a valid, NHIA-issued Health Insurance Certificate as a mandatory eligibility requirement.
Thirdly, MDAs must now demand a valid certificate before issuing or renewing licenses and permits.
To ensure transparency and prevent fraud, the NHIA will develop a digital platform for easy verification of these certificates. Finally, all MDAs must collaborate with the NHIA to ensure continuous compliance.
President Tinubu also called for a constructive dialogue with the private sector to ensure the new requirements do not create an undue burden.
