Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed strong displeasure with the police for stopping a planned meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

According to Eko Hot Blog, the meeting, which aimed to commiserate with members attacked last Saturday, was halted by a police order, which El-Rufai called a violation of constitutional rights.

During a press conference at his Kaduna residence on Thursday, El-Rufai accused the Kaduna State Police Commissioner of overreaching his powers. He claimed the commissioner obtained a court injunction to stop the meeting, but did not properly serve it on the party leaders.

The former governor condemned the recent political violence in the state as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness” and insisted that lawful political assemblies should continue without police interference.

El-Rufai said he and other party leaders chose to respect the police commissioner’s position to avoid a confrontation. He held the press briefing at his private residence to prevent further conflict, but warned that the matter would not end there.

He vowed to challenge the police’s action, declaring that he would take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary.
