The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and six leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over alleged disturbance of public peace.

According to Eko Hot Blog, the police letter dated September 4 and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID) Uzainu Abdullahi, directed them to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 8, 2025. They are being investigated for alleged conspiracy, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

Those invited include Bashir Sa’idu; Ja’afaru Sani, ADC North-West Chairman; Ubaidullah Mohammed, known as “30”; Nasiru Maikano; Aminu Abita; and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini, also called “Mikiya.”

The summons follows a violent incident at the inauguration of a transition committee formed by opposition parties in Kaduna. Witnesses said suspected thugs stormed the venue with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, injuring several people and damaging property.

The Kaduna State Government accused El-Rufai of attempting to destabilise the state through “provocative actions and inflammatory remarks.” Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, said the state would not fold its arms and allow “a discredited former leader who left the state in ruins” to drag Kaduna back into unrest.

El-Rufai has denied the allegations, insisting that the police move is politically motivated. He said the opposition coalition acted within its rights to gather and inaugurate its committee.

Meanwhile, the ADC leadership has criticised the manner of the invitation, saying no formal notice was served to them. Party members claim they first read about the police summons online, which they described as irregular and suspicious.

Earlier, security operatives had sealed the ADC office in Kaduna, a move that further heightened tensions between opposition groups and the state government.

With the September 8 appearance date drawing closer, analysts say the summons could deepen political hostilities in Kaduna as the state braces for future elections.
