US Supreme Court Approves Trump Immigration Raids

  • U.S. Supreme Court allows Trump’s immigration raids to continue in Southern California.
  • Justice Sotomayor warns ruling makes Latinos vulnerable to arbitrary arrest.
  • Governor Newsom says move targets minorities and harms families and businesses.

The United States Supreme Court has supported President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration stance by allowing federal agents to resume raids in Southern California.

Eko Hot Blog reports the operations target individuals for deportation, using factors like language, ethnicity, and race, sparking widespread concern.

The decision overturned a lower court’s order that restricted agents from stopping people solely based on how they look or speak.

The Supreme Court’s ruling, which came without any detailed explanation, will stay in place while an ongoing legal case filed by Latino residents continues.

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the ruling strongly, accusing the court of enabling what he described as racially motivated crackdowns. He said,

“The court, filled with Trump’s chosen judges, has now taken the lead in what amounts to a racially-driven operation in Los Angeles.”

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who dissented alongside two other liberal justices, condemned the move.

She warned that the ruling gives federal agents unchecked power to detain Latino individuals, regardless of their citizenship status.

“The administration has essentially said that being Latino and working a low-income job is enough reason to be stopped, questioned, and detained. I refuse to remain silent while our basic freedoms are eroded.”

The controversial raids, involving armed and masked federal officers, have led to mass protests in Los Angeles.

In response, the federal government deployed troops to the city earlier in June.

President Trump, who returned to office in January, has pledged to ramp up deportations nationwide.

A federal judge had previously ruled that the raids likely breached the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and arrests.

But the Supreme Court has now paused that ruling, allowing the operations to continue for now.

Governor Newsom added that the actions go beyond immigration enforcement. “This is not just about immigration; it’s about targeting people who don’t match a narrow image of what it means to be American including citizens and children. It’s tearing families and businesses apart,” he said.
