According to the president, the federal government’s security clampdown, which began on August 7, has significantly reduced crime in the city.

“Not long ago, you wouldn’t catch me standing in the middle of the street here. For 20 years or more, this place was unsafe. Now, crime is almost gone,” Trump said.

He claimed that D.C., known for high crime in certain neighborhoods, has now become “a safe zone” thanks to the federal intervention, which included mobilizing the National Guard and granting more power to federal law enforcement.

His motorcade was greeted by mixed reactions cheers from supporters and loud protests from activists critical of his policies, especially his backing of Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza.

A small group of protesters inside the restaurant held up miniature Gaza flags and chanted: “Free D.C.! Free Palestine! Trump is the Hitler of our time!”

In response, Trump briefly gestured at them but did not speak. Video footage showed him acknowledging diners and shaking hands before taking his seat.

The White House revealed that over 2,200 arrests have been made since the security operation began.

While some residents have expressed concern over the heavy police and military presence, Trump insisted it’s part of returning order to the capital.

He said people are now feeling safer and going out again: “Restaurants are packed. People tell me they hadn’t been out for years, and now they’re coming out.”

There have, however, been reports of declining reservations at some eateries, alongside frequent protests in several neighborhoods.

Still, Trump maintained that “everyone’s noticing” the change and appreciated the clearing of homeless encampments.
