The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called off its two-day strike following a resolution reached with the Dangote Group during a meeting held on Tuesday.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the development was confirmed by the National President of NUPENG, Comrade Williams Akporeha, said that the Dangote Refinery has now agreed to recognise and allow the unionisation of its truck drivers.

According to him, the meeting was convened by the Department of State Services (DSS) and had key stakeholders, including a representative of the Dangote Refinery, Sayyu Dantata, in attendance.

“We’ve decided to suspend the strike after reaching an understanding. The management of Dangote Refinery has accepted to allow their drivers join the union. An agreement was signed,” Akporeha said during a phone conversation.

Earlier, tanker drivers had commenced a strike on Monday, halting fuel loading activities in protest against the Dangote Refinery’s resistance to unionisation efforts.

This action came despite pleas from the Federal Government urging the drivers to reconsider.

The union has now returned to work, restoring normal operations across affected areas.
